In traditional western allopathic medicine, practitioners tend to focus on and treat symptoms. Functional Medicine practitioners focus on how and why illness occurs, and help the patient restore or improve their health by addressing the root causes of disease for that individual.

Functional Medicine is individualized, patient-centered, and science-based, and the principles can also be used to treat or prevent disease. Functional Medicine is collaborative—it is an approach that empowers patients and practitioners to work together to address the underlying causes of disease and promote optimal wellness with personalized treatment plans.

Functional Medicine recognizes that disease is complex and by addressing root cause, rather than symptoms, practitioners may find one condition has many different causes and, likewise, one cause may result in many different conditions. With Functional Medicine, we can leverage detailed data about each patient’s genetic, biochemical and lifestyle factors to direct personalized treatment plans that lead to improved patient outcomes.
